Frankincense is far more than its essential oil. Where the oil carries mainly the volatile aromatic compounds, the whole resin also holds a complex, non-volatile plant matrix, among it the boswellic acids characteristic of Boswellia.

For Aurelia Botanics we work with selected frankincense resins from Oman, India and Eritrea. Rather than concentrating on the essential oil alone, we infuse the resins into fine plant oils. What joins the composition is then not only their scent, but that particular resin fraction.

It is these non-volatile compounds that make frankincense interesting for modern skincare. Boswellic acids are studied scientifically in connection with inflammation-modulating properties, among others. A controlled topical study also observed improvements in fine lines, skin roughness and elasticity. That makes Boswellia a particularly compelling botanical raw material for demanding, mature or stressed-looking skin.

For the skin it comes down to one thing: care directed at a calmer, suppler, better-tended complexion, and one that combines especially well with nourishing plant oils.
